FAQ

How do I get started in a traineeship?

There are two main ways of obtaining a traineeship. The first is to apply in response to a specific advertised position. Keep your eyes on the employment section of your relevant newspaper, and search through the job search internet sites such as http://www.workplace.gov.au

The second is to contact a group training company. A group training company has the ability to employ you as a trainee, and then find you an employer on your behalf. They may already have an employer who is looking for an employee just like you!

For more information on getting started in a traineeship download our 'Traineeship Action Plan' located atthe bottom of this page.

Do I have to sit exams?

No. Vocational education is competency based, and requires the actual performance of the specific skill in a workplace or realistic setting. All assignments are open book and all details of the assessments are disclosed to you before being completed.

The YMCA uses a combination of written assessment tasks and workplace observations to determine your competence in each of the subjects. All assessments are specific to the roles you perform in the workplace.
